My Writing Space

Apart from the occasional visit to a café for a change of scenery, my home office is the place where I do most of my writing. It isn’t a very large space. The room’s original purpose was as a bedroom, and all of the bedrooms on the second floor of our century-old home are small. My office is filled [continue reading…]

We finally got around to purchasing a much-desired small kitchen appliance today – something that I’ve whined on and off about wanting (needing, really) for quite some time – which is going to make my Meatless Monday experiment (and our other cooking too, for that matter) considerably easier. [continue reading…]

Today’s Gratitude List – Linkup No. 5

I have really come to appreciate this little ritual, this once-weekly segment of time I’ve carved out to specifically, intentionally focus on cultivating a spirit of gratitude in my heart. And I’ve recently noticed that the attitude has begun to spill over into the rest of the week, too! Amazing what happens [continue reading…]

In Praise of Friendship

How did I get so lucky?

I have a best friend who also happens to be my husband… who loves me unconditionally, and encourages me to follow my dreams, and keeps me laughing at life.

Trick-or-Treat

Last year’s Halloween was our first in this house and you know, we had absolutely no idea what to expect. First off, we were both relative newbies to Halloween treat-giving, since both of our previous homes had been located in places that didn’t attract trick-or-treaters (we had none at [continue reading…]

Photo A Day Challenge – October 16-31, 2013

October has reached its end (unbelievable! this year is flying by!), and with it my first full month (since 2012) of daily blogging with NaBloPoMo, and yet another month of daily photos with Fat Mum Slim.

Pumpkin Carving

Last night was all about a return to childhood (because in spite of what you might assume, one does NOT need to have kids – or even access to kids – in order to enjoy childlike delights!) as Peter and I spent a fun evening with a friend, her carving kit, and four unsuspecting pumpkins. A Sad Anniversary

One year ago today – can it really be that long? – we said goodbye to our Spidercat. She was 20 years old, had lived with me for 19, and was the dearest, sweetest cat I have ever known. She’d been in my life for so long it felt as though she was a part of me, and letting her go was heartwrenching. [continue reading…]

Meatless Monday No. 5 – Simply Sabra

Today’s Meatless Monday dinner (and lunch, for that matter!) was once again partially courtesy of Sabra. (As I mentioned in last week’s post, just recently one of their representatives was kind enough to send me several coupons for their retail products to help me out with my Meatless Monday [continue reading…]

Today’s Gratitude List – Linkup No. 4

This has been a busy week, and an even busier one is looming ahead. Busy isn’t necessarily bad – particularly when much of the busy-ness involves doing fun things and spending time with friends – but it can get in the way of taking the time to practice gratitude. This post is here to [continue reading…]

Filthy Felix

Today is a busy one, so I only have time to leave you with a quick post and a visual representation of the sight I saw when I woke up this morning – a horrible creature that used to be a gorgeous, fluffy, black-and-white tuxedo cat, who had managed to magically transform himself into [continue reading…]

Do you know the way to San Jose?

I remember the thrill and my immediate, all-encompassing delight when, at the end of BlogHer ’12 in New York City, it was announced that BlogHer ’13 would be held in Chicago. I was just wrapping up an amazing weekend – my first experience at a BlogHer conference – and was [continue reading…]

Syndicated on BlogHer? Yes, please!

If I actually had a bucket list (and really, I should take some time to translate those nebulous plans and wishes into writing, shouldn’t I?), today would be a banner day. That’s right – today a blogging wish of mine has come true, and I can mark one of those as-yet-as-to-be-created bucket list [continue reading…]

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday

Inspired by NaBloPoMo writing prompt for Wednesday, October 23, 2013:
When was the last time you felt as if things were falling apart? How was the situation resolved?

Christmas – just around the corner!

We’ve only just finished recovering from (Canadian) Thanksgiving, and Halloween hasn’t yet revealed its spooky face… but something happened today that signaled to me that Christmas is just around the corner: the Lee Valley Early Christmas Gift Catalog for 2013 arrived in my mailbox! Meatless Monday No. 4 – Sabra to the rescue

Today I feel quite scattered, a little stressed-out, and most definitely pulled in several different directions at once… and this is in spite of the fact that I took two vacation days last week and am therefore just now wrapping up a five-day weekend. After running around all over town for meetings and [continue reading…]

Today’s Gratitude List – Linkup No. 3

They don’t have to be deep thoughts. It doesn’t have to be complicated. The time spent on the exercise can be as much or as little as you choose. All that’s really important is that you do it… that you regularly practice gratitude, in whatever style suits you best. I promise you, it’s life-changing. [continue reading…]
