Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians! It was rather nice that the holiday fell on a Tuesday this year, combining with my usual Monday off to give me a whole bunch of free time – a four day weekend, if you please! – to ease myself back into tangling [continue reading…]
The June Photo A Day Challenge is now complete! I’ve had great fun as always, but the cherry on top of my picture taking this month was having my June 21st photo (Here I am) chosen as one of the “Awesome 18” on the FMS Photo A Day Facebook Group. [continue reading…]
Today, nature fills me with gratitude… because the day lilies in our back alley have blossomed, and they’re gorgeous! Just as ivy can beautify an abandoned wreck of a building, these cheerful lilies provide an unexpected pop of colour and loveliness [continue reading…]
Just a few months ago I celebrated my Ten Year Blogiversary – an entire decade (can you believe it?!) of sharing my life and thoughts online via a series of blogs that eventually brought me to this corner of the internet – Alphabet Salad, my beloved [continue reading…]
The other day while my houseguests and I were touring the neighbourhood, we spent some time taking photos of a gorgeous ivy-covered landmark – the old Walker Power Plant – not far from my house. When I saw today’s Photo Friday prompt – “Green” – [continue reading…]
When I lived in Victoria, the pull to connect with nature invariably drew me to the oceanfront, where breathing in the crispness of the salty, seaweed-scented air and watching the sun come alive in scattered sparkles on the tips of the waves was [continue reading…]
Well… I mentioned in my previous Tangled Tuesday post that “taking a bit of a break” to enjoy visiting with our houseguests was my sole tangling goal for the week, and I most certainly fulfilled it! So today’s Tangled Tuesday post will be a little more sparse than [continue reading…]
I‘m guessing I was not all that different from most kids in this regard, but the first words from my mouth when I bounded into the house after school were usually, “What’s for dinner?”
This week has been a roller coaster of emotions ranging from anxiety about getting the house ready for company in the midst of concerns about Grisabella’s worsening health, to joy at seeing and being able to spend many days with my sister and friend, to heartbreak over the loss of our [continue reading…]
I am sad to tell you that we had to say goodbye to our beloved mama cat Grisabella after she took a sharp turn for the worse this past week. We know we made the right decision to free her from suffering, but our hearts and home are a little emptier and we miss her beautiful self.
Today’s Photo Friday picture was taken last summer when Peter and I visited Point Pelee National Park, a gorgeous spot at the very southernmost point of Canada, for the first time. It’s only about an hour’s drive from our home in Windsor, so I hope we’ll get to visit again soon! [continue reading…]
If you’ve taken a look at my blog’s layout, you might have noticed that I have a bit of a “thing” for vintage typewriters (as an aside, I suppose it’s valid to say that all typewriters are vintage, right?!).
If you were given the opportunity for a “do-over” – that is, the chance to go back in time and make different decisions, different choices, and thereby change your life and the person you have become – would you accept it?

This was a slightly more productive week in my corner of the tangling world than the one I wrote about in my previous Tangled Tuesday post – but only slightly, as we were still getting ready for our houseguests (who are scheduled to arrive TODAY!) and so I wasn’t able to take much time [continue reading…]
We’re midway through June (yes, already!), so I thought I’d share my month-in-progress for the June Photo A Day Challenge.
I’ve been sharing my photos on Instagram, Twitter, Flickr, [continue reading…]
Happy Father’s Day to my smart and wonderful dad! You are number one on my gratitude list today for so many reasons, topped by your unfailing strength of character and personal ethics. Thank you for setting such a great example for me – I am grateful I can call you Dad. [continue reading…]
