The art of bonsai has always fascinated and appealed to me. There’s something about contemplating the beauty and simple complexity of those tiny, perfectly formed and cultivated trees that just satisfies and calms my soul.
I know very little about the art of bonsai, but must admit that I have always wanted to try my hand at it. I’m not sure, but I think it’s something that might suit my personality, my attention to detail.
The other day we drove past a nursery that offered inexpensive hanging flower baskets (which was the first temptation), and… bonsai plants! I’m not sure I’ve ever seen such a thing advertised on a roadside sign! I have no idea what it would cost to take up bonsai as a hobby, but must admit I’m intrigued to find out. Perhaps I’ll visit that nursery and make some inquiries.
In the meantime, I was delighted when I saw today’s 30 Days of Creativity prompt. I got to create a miniature of a miniature!
June 8, 2012 prompt:
BONSAI – It’s not just a small tree in a small pot, it’s a Japanese tradition.
(If you want to see this in all its imperfect waxy goodness, clicking on the photo will take you to the larger version on Flickr.)
In case you missed it, this is what I’m doing throughout the month of June, and why. I’ll be posting all of my projects to my 30 Days of Creativity 2012 board on Pinterest.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
